iPhone XS, XS Max and XR: Apple announces new phones at launch event
Apple has unveiled a trio of new iPhones: the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR.
The iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are upgraded versions on the iPhone X, which introduced facial recognition technology, an all-screen design and removed the home button of previous iPhones.
Apple also revealed the slightly cheaper iPhone XR – a device that has an LCD screen and aluminium frame.
iPhone XS and XS Max
The iPhone XS and XS Max are each available with 64GB, 256GB or 512GB storage, and both handsets come in three finishes: gold, silver and space grey.
The main difference between the two handsets is their size. The iPhone XS has a 5.8-inch OLED display; the iPhone XS Max has a 6.5-inch OLED display – the largest ever on an iPhone.
The latest phones also feature, Apple’s A12 bionic chip. Apple says it is the first seven nanometer chip to be used in a smartphone and it is capable of running five trillion operations per second.
Even with all this power, you will get up to 30 minutes of extra battery life with the iPhone XS, and up to 90 minutes more with the iPhone XS Max.
Both of the iPhones have a dual-camera system on their rear: a 12MP wide-angle camera that has a new image stabilisation sensor and it’s supported by a 12MP telephoto camera that has 2x optical zoom. On the front of the phones is a True Depth camera that allows for its FaceID facial recognition.
The iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are also dual-SIM-compatible, allowing two numbers to be used on one handset. When either phone gets a call, that SIM card becomes active to answer the call.
Apple has completed the lineup with the more affordable iPhone XR. The iPhone XR is now the cheapest way to get the iPhone X-design.
Apple has been able to keep the price down by using an LCD display, a single camera setup, and removing 3D Touch.
The iPhone XR will be available in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB models in white, black, blue, yellow, coral and red. All models are made of an aluminium band with a glass rear.
The iPhone XR has a 6.1-inch LCD display, the first edge-to-edge LCD handset available.
The iPhone XR is also running Apple’s A12 bionic chip and features FaceID.
It has the same TrueDepth Camera on the front as the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. However, the iPhone XR only has a single 12MP wide-angle camera on its rear. The iPhone XR does still have a portrait mode, but the bokeh effect is created using software rather than a second camera.
The iPhone X will be available to pre-order on 19th October.

Excellent service with step by step updates. Faultless.
After having problems with a previous IP phone service provider we decided to move to Infinitel after a recommendation. Andrew kept me informed all the way through the switch over process which was smooth and simple. Since then Andrew has always been available to speak to and quickly rectified any teething problems we had. I would highly recommend Infinitel for internet phone services.
We approached Infinitel with a really specific brief. What we were looking for as a company was a particularly niche solution that really needed to work. Andrew and his team turned this solution around with 24 hours and turned something that I had been trying to implement for over 12 months, in to a really easy and simple solution. From start to finish, the process was easy and streamlined and has given us exactly what we are looking for as a company rather than what a company “thinks” we need. They come highly recommended from us
Apex Computing Services has worked with Infinitel on many projects including replacing our own telephone solution in our office. We needed very specific features including reporting and monitoring of calls. We also required a whisper function that would allow us to be able to assist and prompt engineers when completing IT support calls to customers. The support we received from Infinitel was excellent and we now have a system that is fit for purpose. The system was delivered on-time, within budget and with little disruption to the business. Thank you!
Of all the suppliers to deal with, telecoms and mobile phone suppliers in my experience are the worst. When I met Andrew Platt is was clear he is someone who cares about what he does and has very high standards of customer service. The transition of Barnabus mobile phones from EE to Vodafone went very smoothly and even setting up our new phones was painless. Andrew has made our new contract easy to understand and competitively priced, so that we can show value for money to our supporters. Thank you Andrew, we never knew that mobile phone companies could be like Infinitel!
