Everything you need to know about the new iPhone 8 and iPhone X

To mark the 10th anniversary of the iPhone; Apple has launched not one, but three new iPhones – the iPhone 8, the iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone X (iPhone 10).

Here’s everything you need to know about the three new iPhones…

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus

They will be available in three colours

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will be available in silver, space grey and rose gold in an all glass finish.

All three new models are getting a new and improved screen – a new OLED screen means colours will be crisper, blacks will be blacker and whites will be brighter, and it’s much more efficient on power than ever before.

The iPhone 8 will have a 4.7 inch screen and the 8 Plus will have a 5.5 inch retina HD screen.

The camera has had a number of upgrades. The 8 Plus’ camera has a new dual telephoto wide lens in the rear camera . There’s also an improved flash, which has been optimised for augmented reality.

Plus, the iPhone 8 Plus will have a new portrait mode with several studio lighting effects, including stage light and contour light

Charging your phone just went wireless

Apple have introduced wireless charging into the new models. So now you’ll be able to place your phone on a charging mat and charge it without wires.

Apple will be releasing an AirPower wireless, multi-charging device in 2018, but until then, wireless charging stations are widely available, and you’ll still be able to charge your phone with a cable.

iOS 11 will add more new features

As well as a brand new A11 chip, which will make the new phones lightening fast, iOS 11 is expected to bring even more exciting updates to the new phone. Some of the most exciting features include:

• An update to the camera and photo apps, meaning better low-light photography and a new bounce-and-loop effect for live photos, similar to a Boomerang

• A redesigned control centre and app store

• Improvements to Apple Music

• New safety features, including ‘do not disturb’ while driving

An update to Siri, will make it sound more human; Siri will also be able to translate English speech into other languages  including French, Chinese, Spanish and more. Plus, Siri will also be able to spot your interests and make recommendations for you based on articles you read, websites you visit and much more.

iOS 11 will be free to download for everyone with an iPhone 5s, or newer model, from 19th September.

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will start being shipped from 22nd September.  However, you will need to be quick – we expect the new iPhones will sell out quickly.

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are available to order from Infinitel on O2, EE and Vodafone business plans.

The iPhone X (iPhone 10)

Say goodbye to the home button

Say goodbye to the home button. The phone can now be ‘woken up’ when it’s locked just by tapping the screen, and when the phone is unlocked, you can reach the home screen by swiping up.

You can unlock your phone just by looking at it

The iPhone X will replace the touch ID fingerprint scanner with facial recognition technology, which will work by using the front camera. This means you’ll be able unlock your phone just by looking at it, even at night. You’ll also be able to pay for Apple Pay transactions and log into apps using it and  the new technology will adapt to changes in your appearance over time.

It looks totally different

The iPhone X has a 5.8 inch edge-to-edge display super retina HD screen, which will appear as one sheet of glass similar to the Samsung Galaxy S8. The new screens will be far superior to existing iPhone models. The iPhone X will be available in black and silver with the same glass finish.

The camera just got a 3D upgrade

The iPhone X will have all the same camera upgrades as the 8 Plus, as well as a revolutionary new front camera with 3D-sensing capabilities. This means that the camera can detect the contours of your face so that you can edit things like lighting to match your face shape.

In the future, this will allow us to use augmented reality (AR) to superimpose virtual images, games and videos onto real world objects, and could also be used in apps such as Snapchat.

You get an extra two hours battery life

The iPhone X will have an extra two hours battery life compared to the iPhone 7.

You’ll have to wait slightly longer for the iPhone X, the iPhone X is available to pre-order from Infinitel now and will start shipping from 3 November. But, good things come to those who wait.

The iPhone X is available to order from Infinitel on O2, EE and Vodafone business plans.
